FAQ

There's no coffee!

That's not a question :)

There's no coffee, what do I do?

In Echelon, the coffee is kept in the cupboard above the grinder. If there is none in the cupboard, the coffee is kept in Martin Krzywinski's office (#523). In BCCRC, coffee is kept in a drawer under the machine. At BCCRC, the keeper of the coffee is Stephanie McInnis - see him if there is no coffee.

How do I check my account status?

How do I check the Club finances?

How often do I need to pay my bean levy?

Most people pay ahead for 2-3 months. Periodically check your account status and try not to let your account slip into arrears.

Where do I get milk?

There may be milk in the lunch room fridge, both in Echelon and BCCRC. Remember, we are not a milk club. Contact Pawan Pandoh if you want to be a member of the GSC Krishna's Cow Coop milk club.

There's no milk, what do I do?

Go buy some. You're responsible for your own milk. Arrange to share with other members.

Where do I get hot water.

At Echelon, use the hot water boiler beside the sink.

My shots are not pouring as they should, what do I do?

A proper tamp is one which produces 1 oz (32ml) of liquid in about 15-20 seconds. If you like your shots short (ristretto, 3/4 oz), then the pour should be slower. Given that we always use the same coffee and grinder settings, a poor pour is always a result of poor tamping. Eventually, you will discover the right tamp pressure that gives you a good pour.

I want to buy an espresso machine for home, where do I go?

Please check Espressotec. The club buys our equipment from them, as do myself and several other GSC employees. For home, I recommend either the Rancilio Silvia or Baby Gaggia. Don't forget that a good grinder is critical—don't blow your budget on the machine and then get a cheap grinder. Don't forget the tamper—I recommend the Reg Barber. Check coffeegeek.com for reviews and information about all things coffee.
