How it's described

Table

Two complementary views of the same six-rotor mechanism.

## Current values **Current values** turns the mechanics table into a live stage ledger for all six physical rotors. Uppercase **H / M / S** columns represent the Hour, Minute, and Second bezels; lowercase **h / m / s** represent the corresponding hands. The rows follow the mechanism in execution order: **Drive → Timing → Advance → Response → Modulation → Epicycle** Drive always reports the rotor's current resolved pre-Motion target. Later Motion rows report values when that stage actively changes the trajectory; inactive pass-through stages remain blank rather than repeating the value from the previous row. Epicycle applies only to bezel columns because it moves a bezel's center rather than a hand. ### Time accuracy A traffic-light indicator beside each bezel header measures the corresponding Hand/Bezel pair at the **Drive boundary, before Motion or Epicycle**. Green means effectively exact wall time, orange means the signed angular error is within the configured **Time error ε**, and red means it lies outside that threshold. This status measures the actual resolved relationship. It is independent of whether correctness is structurally guaranteed by a Time slave or happens to emerge from two independent Drives. ## Formula **Formula** mode shows the mechanical relationships symbolically rather than sampling their current numerical result. It resolves the Drive graph far enough to describe what each physical rotor is actually being asked to follow. ### Drive notation Clock, Fixed, Free, and Coupled are authored Drive modes. A Time slave replaces independent Drive authority with the lane-partner relation required to preserve time. Coupled dependencies and Time-slave compensation are substituted and simplified in the table so the displayed expression describes the final Drive target rather than exposing intermediate dependency equations. A Fixed Drive appears as a constant. Coefficients scale rate, and a minus sign reverses direction. ### Motion notation Timing, Advance, Response, and Modulation each describe only their local stage. Default pass-through settings are intentionally compact: an empty applicable Motion cell means the stage is at its default pass-through state, while an em dash means that stage does not apply to the rotor. Stop-to-go is written compactly as **s2g(cycle,hold)**. Spring response is represented as **spr(tension, bounce%)**. Step, Ratchet, Pendulum, and Drift similarly encode their authored parameters without changing the underlying stage order. ### Epicycle notation Epicycle is the final bezel-only stage. An enabled clockwise orbit is represented as **ε(r,p)** and a counterclockwise orbit as **−ε(r,p)**, where *r* is radius and *p* is period. The notation describes center motion; it does not replace the bezel's rotational Drive or Motion formula. ### Fingerprints and full state The **Mechanical fingerprint** is a deterministic, versioned serialization of movement state. It includes Drive, Time-slave relationships, Motion, Epicycle, Position, and related mechanical settings while excluding clock appearance and shell-owned interface settings. The **Style fingerprint** serializes authored clock appearance only. It excludes mechanics and shared framework theme/typography preferences. A full **Current clock** JSON export is separate. It carries the reproducible clock configuration together with both fingerprints for validation and transport.
