Clock appearance is independent of mechanical behavior.
## Appearance
Clock appearance is deliberately independent of clock mechanics. Hands, bezels, face, center, marks, labels, visibility, and related drawing choices can change without rewriting Drive, Motion, Epicycle, or the equations represented in the mechanics table.
The surrounding site's **color theme and typography are shared interface preferences owned by the framework shell**. They belong to the shell and apply consistently across the whole site. Clock-specific appearance remains application state because it describes the instrument itself rather than the interface around it.
This distinction also defines the preset boundary. Mechanical presets capture how the clock behaves; Style presets capture how the clock instrument is drawn. Shared site theme and typography belong to neither domain.
The **[Presets](presets.html)** page describes how the two clock preset families are separated and transported.
