Courses and workshops are coded using the format i.j.k.l where

• i represents the category of the course, such as perl foundations, shell refresher, APIs, etc.
• j represents the unique course index within the category
• k encodes the difficulty level from 0 (everyone) to 3 (advanced)
• l is the number of sessions in the course

The session of each course has resources such as images, slides, presentations and downloadable scripts and data files. Each resource is uniquely identified by a particular code. For a given session, each resource has the same code root, which consists of the course and session identifier, followed by a specific resource alphanumeric identifier that uniquely specifies the resource. The codes are as follows, where NNN is a unpadded integer.

• .pNNN Powerpoint presentations, e.g. p2
• .aNNN PDF presentations
• .sNNN slide images
• .sNNNt slide thumbnail images
• .cNNN scripts and code
• .dNNN data files

Eventually, the site will be designed in such a way as to make it possible to access a resource by knowing its code. Currently, viewing slides is already coded in this way. For example, the URL

/perlworkshop/index.mhtml?code=1.0.1.8.2.s5

will display the 5th slide of the second session of the course 1.0.1.8.
