The mouse array was constructed from 2 libraries: RPCI-23, RPCI-24. The number of clones sampled from each library is relatively commensurate to the library's representation in the fingerprint map.
There are two clone naming formats: the Genbank or standardized format and the fingerprint mapping format. The difference is shown below.
The Genbank format uniquely identifies the library and does not use zero-padding in the plate number or the well field. For example, RP11-232A2 is prefered to RP11-0232A02. The Genbank format is the most widely used and is the canonical format in the Genbank database and clone registry. The fingerprint mapping format is found only in fingerprinting context, such as in fingerprint maps generated with FPC. The fingerprint mapping format was designed to accomodate a limit to the clone field width in FPC and to improve readability when many, sometimes hundreds, of clones are tiled on the screen. Because the fingerprint mapping format uses a single character for the library, the library designation does not uniquely specify a library, although when combined with the species from which the library was derived, the library character is unique.
